NO DISTRIBUTOR, NO RETAILER

STRAIGHT FROM US TO YOU

Hello, thanks for visiting the website. We are James and Mark. We have been running a successful studio business together for the past ten years. Mark has over 35 years experience in recording, mixing, and high-end mastering and James is our technical director, handling anything with 1's and 0's, from 3D product design through to DSP programming.

It stands to reason that the most important part of Mark's mastering chain is the monitoring. Having always used the best monitors available, Mark found himself at a crossroads when labels started asking him to work in Dolby Atmos. 16 high end monitors don’t come cheap. So Mark and James decided to combine their technical skills and build some high end studio monitors using cutting-edge components and the latest technologies.

After a year of development, a good dose of trial and error, 35 iterations of cabinet design and some expert help from industry professionals, we ended up with a studio monitor that outperformed our existing £30k system.

Mark started mastering on the MUM-8s and the results were instant - quality went up, revisions went down.

Music producers and mix engineers were using the studio and discovered they were mixing faster and the results sounded better. They wanted to replace their own monitors with the MUMs.

Fast forward one year and we have customers all over the world, many of whom who have ordered second pairs for their second rooms. And they're all still hand made in rural Essex, by us. From our workshop, direct to your studio.

"The bass is perhaps even better than I hoped it would be, combining fabulous bandwidth with outrageously seductive speed and detail."

MUM-6

MUM-8

Two analogue and three digital inputs allow the MUM to integrate seamlessly into any setup.

A filtered mains inlet feeds the auto-switching power supply, ensuring optimal performance anywhere in the world.

MUM-8's removable rack-mount amplifier can be used traditionally on the rear of the speaker or located remotely and placed in a standard 19-inch equipment rack.

MUM-6 features a traditional plate-style amplifier, still featuring the same high quality, low distortion Hypex N-Core modules as found in the MUM-8

Phil Harding - Legendary British pop producer and mix engineer

"Now installed into my home studio - the beryllium version of the MUM-8 active studio monitors really are very special and quite extraordinary.

In terms of low-end depth and clarity I am astonished compared to other studio monitors in this price range. The accuracy continues through the mid range and high-end frequencies and I'm hearing differences and wonderful nuances on my mix comparison tests that I was previously unaware of!

After 51 years in the industry I've finally found my perfect monitors."

FEATURING STATE OF THE ART DRIVER TECHNOLOGY

BlieSMa M74.png

SUBJECTIVELY AND MEASURABLY THE BEST BASS DRIVERS IN THE WORLD

Danish company Purifi have developed quite simply the best bass drivers we've ever encountered, and we use their PTT6.5 in our MUM-6 and PTT8 in our MUM-8.

If you know your way around a data sheet, you'll be blown away by the specifications of these drivers. Incredibly low distortion at any point in their linear excursion, with negligible force factor modulation and surround radiation distortion (thanks to their unique NeutralSurround and ConeRing proprietary IP).

The detail is in the mid-range. The MUM-8 is a three-way monitor that features a domed tweeter and midrange driver. This offers uncompromising detail and a superb off-axis response for a wide sweet-spot. We partnered with German company BlieSMa, who have been making outstanding transducers for many years. Available in two dome materials - silk for every day tracking and mixing duties, and beryllium for ruthless no-compromise accuracy and detail - these drivers are class-leading in just about every measurable aspect, and convey a level of detail that monitors costing many times more struggle to keep up with. Stereo imaging is unrivalled, with a clearly defined phantom centre, but also an enormous sense of width and 3D soundscape. When demo-ing a stereo pair in our Atmos room we often have to hang a coat over the centre and wide channels to prove to clients that they aren’t switched on!

MODERN TECHNOLOGY BACKED BY DECADES OF EXPERIENCE FOR UNBEATABLE MIDS AND HIGHS

"The quality of the BlieSMa midrange driver and tweeter are instantly apparent with their immense clarity, inaudible noise floor and uncannily sharp stereo image focus.

The MUM-8 is an incredibly revealing and analytical monitor that immediately lays all the elements of a mix naked and exposed. You almost feel you ought to be able to reach into the stereo image and touch things."

MORE THAN JUST A BOX

PresentDayProduction MUM-8 Front Panels.JPG

Our cabinets are made in-house from Valchromat, a material 30% denser than MDF that is made from sustainable wood pulp and is entirely VOC free. This is a superb material from which to construct speaker cabinets, and entirely removes the time consuming, expensive, and environmentally unfriendly finishing process that MDF and similar materials require. Cabinets are internally braced and damped, with a 38mm front baffle that also features constrained layer damping to minimise resonance. The MUM-8 can also be used in a horizontal orientation by swapping the tweeter position with the included blanking plate. Our standard finish is a light grey that shows off the drivers well, and has a finish and heft to it somewhat akin to polished concrete. But the MUM range is also available in black (it’s actually a very deep charcoal grey) as well as a range of other colours that are available to special order. We recently shipped a chocolate brown pair to California!

We went through 35 iterations of cabinet design during the development process - the drivers are only as good as the cabinet that houses them! The MUM-6 and MUM-8 feature an acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure that eliminates port resonance and chuffing, and results in a tight, focussed, controlled and incredibly dynamic low end. Traditionally, a sealed enclosure can lack in power and volume with inefficient drivers as you are effectively trying to eliminate the energy coming from the back of the cone, but with the PTT8 in the MUM-8 and the PTT6.5 in the MUM-6, both being driven by 250 watts of clean Class-D power, this isn’t an issue.

POWERING IT ALL

The active electronics start with a DSP front end based on Analog Devices chipsets with mastering grade conversion; you can connect analogue balanced XLR sources, unbalanced RCA, and digital sources on AES (XLR), S/PDIF (RCA) and Toslink (optical). Any digital input is mirrored on all digital outputs, so you can connect a stereo Toslink or AES source to the left speaker and that will in turn feed the right hand signal to the left via any of the digital connectivity options. If connecting the two speakers via S/PDIF you can also use them in a master/slave configuration.

To suit your room or personal taste, you can access parametric EQ controls from your computer via USB to tweak EQ settings, and store up to three presets on board. Using the included IR remote control you can also switch between presets, as well as control power, volume, mute, and source selection, and that information will be conveyed on the screen on the OLED display as well as clip indication and any relevant warning messages.

On MUM-6, the DSP feeds into two channels, and on MUM-8 three channels, of Hypex N-Core pure, clean, class-D power, which is modified in house for even lower noise and distortion (with the blessing of Hypex!)

RACK-MOUNTABLE AMPLIFIERS

While the MUM-6 uses a traditional plate-style amplifier, for the MUM-8 we developed an amplifier solution that can be traditionally mounted to the back of the speaker, but that can also be easily removed and placed in a standard 19” equipment rack. This connects to the speaker using industry standard Neutrik NL-8 connectors for ultimate reliability, along with a five-pin XLR for power and data to the screen. Short cables are included with the MUM-8 and 5m and 10m versions are available from our shop, alongside custom lengths if required, should you wish to mount the amplifiers in a rack.

SOME OF OUR COMMUNITY

WHAT'S IN THE NAME?

MUM stands for 'modular, upgradable monitor'. You can start with silk mid-drivers and tweeters - for a long time the standard in studio monitor design - but then upgrade to beryllium as your skills progress or needs dictate. But forget any preconceived ideas you may have about metal-domed drivers sounding harsh or brittle. These are the most natural-sounding drivers we've ever heard.

Whilst the amplifier packs currently use class-leading DSP and class-D amplification, this is a technology that is improving all the time, and we’ve developed a unique design that means it will be fully upgradable in the future. Good monitoring is an essential investment. We believe we’ve developed a product that can grow with you as technology improves and be upgraded into the future.

"I just received my MUM-8's on Monday, and they are easily the best monitors I have ever heard!

They go surprisingly low and solid for an 8-inch driver, and the mids and highs are equally superb!"

GEOFF WADDINGTON

Ian Stephenson PresentDayProduction MUM-8.jpg

"I’ve had an extended period of owning and working on both PMC 6-2s and MUM-8s, and I’ve just ordered a second pair of MUM-8s and am selling the PMCs - you can conclude that I like the MUMs better… I think it’s the transient detail that does it for me."
